The Bud Billiken® Parade Royal Court Contest is for boys and girls 8 to 12 years old who reside in the Chicagoland area. Contestants will be judged on scholarship and citizenship. The Bud Billiken Royal Court is made up of outstanding children who want to make a difference in their communities. Winners of the Royal Court contest will be announced on March 25, 2017 after a private movie screening at Studio Movie Grill. Chance the Rapper will announce the winners live at the event. Only Royal Court applicants and their families/friends will be provided with a link to purchase tickets.


Contestants must be available on ALL of the following dates:

March 17th – Oral Presentations

March 25th – Royal Court Winners Announced/Movie day

June 2017 – TV taping

August 6th – Coronation

August 7-11 -  Week of fun

Parade Day – August 12th 


Six contest winners will be crowned The Bud Billiken® Parade Royal Court by Chance the Rapper and will reign supreme in leading this year’s 88th Annual Bud Billiken® Parade on Saturday, August 12th. The first-place male will be King, first place female will be Queen. Second place male will be Prince, second place female will be Princess. Third place male will be Lord and third place female will be the Lady.

On Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10am, we will host a private movie screening for applicants to the Royal Court. At the end of the screening, Chicago’s Chance the Rapper will announce the contest winners. Tickets for this event are $20/person. The fee includes admission to the movie, popcorn and a drink. Only applicants to the Royal Court and their families/friends can purchase tickets. If you are not present at the event or do not purchase tickets, you are ineligible to participate in the Royal Court. All children must be supervised. 200 tickets are available for purchase on a first come first served basis. A link with ticket information will be emailed to the parent/guardian of the applicant. *
