Calling all Chicagoland High School Students!!

The Bud Billiken Parade and Chance the Rapper's nonprofit SocialWorks, is hosting a T-shirt design contest with the theme of "Honoring Our Hometown Heroes".  Your design should capture the essence of your favorite Hometown Hero, Your love for the city, and the Bud Billiken Parade. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase your artistic talent and express yourself creatively. The winning designer will be chosen by Bud Billiken Parade Grand Marshal, Chance The Rapper at a private event. In addition to bragging rights, the winning design will be used to create the 2017 Official Bud Billiken Parade T-Shirt and will be available for others to wear all over the city.

All submissions must be received by midnight on March 26th, 2017.   Designs may be hand drawn and scanned or call for pick up. 

Judging will take place by Chance The Rapper and results will consist of two finalists and one Grand Prize winner. Chance will announce the winner on Friday, March 31st 2017.

Judging Criteria

Clarity and significance of message, effectiveness of attracting attention, and artistic merit. We reserve the right to request the winner to make minor adjustments to the design prior to manufacturing.

Your design must be original and not contain any profanity. Graphics, photographs, and 2D artwork not produced by the entrant(s) must be authorized for use (documentation of authorization must accompany your submission).

 

Agreement

All entries become the property of the Chicago Defender Charities, Bud Billiken Parade. And all rights to reproduce belong to Chicago Defender Charities, Bud Billiken Parade. Winner forfeits any payment from the sale of shirts by the Chicago Defender Charities or SocialWorks. Students must have parent approval to participate in the contest. Parents agree to the terms and conditions that their child signs.

SPONSOR: Chicago Defender Charities, Inc.  Company(“Charities” or “Sponsor”) is the sponsor and administrator of the Contest and is responsible for the fulfillment of the prizes. Entrants should look solely to the Charities, 700 E. Oakwood, Chicago, IL 60653 (“Sponsor Address”) with any questions, comments or problems related to the Contest.

GUIDELINES: The design must be on the front side of the shirt only, Each entry must be smaller than 15MB in size. Designs can include up to 3-colors, not including the base color of the shirt and should have the words “88th Annual Bud Billiken Parade” and “Hometown Heroes” on it somewhere.    Use of individual brand artwork or other trademarked content not provided is prohibited. Designs that are considered offensive or defamatory or in violation of any person’s right to privacy or other personal rights are not welcome. Entries that are incomplete, illegible or corrupted are void and will not be accepted. Entries may not include: (a) profanity, nudity or material deemed inappropriate or offensive to the judges; (b) false or defamatory statements about any person or any third party; (c) third party trademarks which suggest affiliation with any trademark owner without permission of such owner or that dilute the value of any trademark; (d) obscene, indecent, violent, sexually explicit, abusive, discriminatory, racially inflammatory or other morally or legally objectionable depictions of material, in the opinion of the judges or the Sponsor. If an entry includes any of the prohibited elements listed above, the entry will be disqualified, along with the contestant who submitted it. Entry should be appropriate to the Chicago Defender Charities, Inc. or SocialWorks brand image. Sponsor reserves the right to modify or reject any entry, in their sole and absolute discretion, that does not meet the above criteria. Once submitted, an entry cannot be modified. BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY, CONTESTANT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT HIS/HER ENTRY MAY BE POSTED ON SPONSOR’S WEBSITE AND EDITED, IN SPONSOR’S DISCRETION.

OWNERSHIP: The Sponsor has EXCLUSIVE rights to reproduce and use. Entries become the property of the Charities and none will be returned or acknowledged except as provided herein. Submission of an entry grants Sponsor and its agents an unlimited, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free license and right to publish, use, edit, adapt, modify and/or publicly perform the entry in any way, in commerce and in any and all media worldwide now known or hereinafter developed, without limitation and without notice or consideration of the contestant. By submitting an entry, each contestant in the Contest further agrees that his/her entry constitutes an assignment of all rights, including but not limited to intellectual property rights, and title in and to such entry and the photograph therein to Sponsor. Sponsor may require contestants to execute documents to confirm this transfer of rights. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Upon submission you agree to forfeit any ownership and are prohibited from the independent reproduction or sale of any images.  By virtue of a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license for the designs granted by all finalists chosen prior to the voting process, the Charities hall have the right to edit, adapt, print (as on apparel) and publish any or all of the designs deemed finalist, and may use them in any media and/or the promotion of the Charities without compensation to the contestant, his or her successors or assigns, or any other entity. The Sponsor and SocialWorks maintains the rights to receive all proceeds from the sale of any merchandise using the submitted artwork, without fee or other form of compensation due at any time to the contestant.  Designs will be credited to the artist on our retail store website and in all promotions relevant to that product. In the event that ownership of any design submitted is challenged in any manner by any person, we may disqualify that design and will discontinue use.

PRIZE: One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be selected and awarded a $500.00 cash prize, in addition to 25 free tee shirts of mixed sizes, displaying the winning design, and be named as the winner on www.budbillikenparade.org. Two (2) Finalist will be identified and awarded with a Bud Billiken Prize Pack. No prize substitution is permitted. Prize is not transferable. All taxes are the winner’s responsibility.
